Recipes that say: 1 clove of garlic.

Only 1 clove??!!

ONE CLOVE?????!!!!!

@GwenfarsGarden I always assume 1 clove was a typo they meant 1 head.

@GwenfarsGarden I feel like the only exception is recipes where the garlic is raw, like hummus. When I used more than a couple of cloves of garlic for that, I had vampire-repelling breath all day.

@lilly this is indeed my only exception too, for the same reason :)

@GwenfarsGarden what, come on, is the recipe for a single serving for an actual infant?

@whami @GwenfarsGarden My kid sent me this the other day, and it is an amazing way to prep garlic. Blew my mind. I have yet to try it though. (Sorry, it’s a TikTok.)

@deneb @whami darn, I saw this after I finished peeling 4 heads of garlic individually. Am going to try it next time - thanks!

@GwenfarsGarden @whami I was really impressed with this! Let me know when your try it.

@deneb
@GwenfarsGarden
That looks cool, but at the same time, I get tremendous satisfaction from smashing every individual clove to peel it.

@whami @GwenfarsGarden I do enjoy smashing cloves of garlic but this is a chance to smash the whole head Will!

@deneb
@GwenfarsGarden
But it's a one-and-done. My way gives multiple, albeit lesser, points of satisfaction. Let's face it, the primary reason I cook is just to get the opportunity of smashing stuff.

@whami @GwenfarsGarden the clove is the whole thing though, right? i dunno what the bits that pop off are called. cells maybe? idk

@eject @GwenfarsGarden The bulb is the whole thing. The cloves are the individual pieces.

@whami @eject this. Sometimes a bulb of garlic is called a head of garlic too.

@GwenfarsGarden After moving to France, I realised that you can quite easily find garlic here which has cloves which are twice the size of the ones I used to get in the UK.

I still usually use at least two.

@FrazzledBrynn @InvaderXan this is one of the reasons I grow my own garlic, to get better sizes. I think commercially grown garlic is grown much closer together and harvested earlier, hence smaller sizes

@FrazzledBrynn @GwenfarsGarden It's actually super easy to grow! The garlic greens are tasty too.

@FrazzledBrynn @InvaderXan um, I've kind written a post on growing garlic gwenfarsgarden.info/2016/09/sp. Garlic is kinda my 'thing' :)

If you like (you are in the UK or EU?), I could send you some cloves to grow.

Garlic is really one of the easiest, and low spoon veg, to grow.

@GwenfarsGarden @InvaderXan Ohhh gosh yes please!! I am v excited to grow garlic now, your guide is perfect and the fact it includes a spoon rating :yayblob:

@FrazzledBrynn @InvaderXan cool. I'll look into sending you some next week. DM me your address?

Will you be growing in the ground or in containers?

I need to get back to writing up some more blogposts. I have some more 1 spoon rating veg to include such as Fennel Bulbs and Kohl Rabi.

@InvaderXan the size of garlic in the UK shops is awful, you need at least 3 cloves of those, to equal a proper sized garlic clove.

Luckily, I've been growing all my own for years, and even the smaller ones are bigger than the ones in the shops.

@GwenfarsGarden Of course, I also feel that way about recipes that call for one chile pepper.
🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ 🤯

@natrixnatrix OMG!!!!!!!

I occasionally have some that have a couple of cloves stuck together, but never seen a whole bulb stuck together. Wow.

That must be what recipes that say "1 clove of garlic" mean 😂 :garlic: :garlic: :garlic:

@GwenfarsGarden the only possible recipe with one clove of garlic is: how to fry one clove of garlic.

@GwenfarsGarden @whami ahahaha yes! that's probably where i got that from 😝
