Hi, I'm pagrus. I am an erstwhile food professional, having done just about everything but work in a restaurant kitchen.
I was a baker for a few years, a butcher for a few years. Mostly my experience has been in seafood processing and selling. I have also worked in a zillion coffee shops including one of my own for a little over five years.
Mostly I try to avoid land meat and dairy these days, I still eat shellfish eg oysters and eggs once in a while.
So that covers the basics #introduction
I popped into Southampton's radical #bookshop, #OctoberBooks, before Christmas and picked up a copy of Dope magazine - an anarchist re-envisioning of The Big Issue. UK folks, worth seeking it out if you can find it!
Hey cooking pals, do you have cooking goals this year?
I would like to learn to make a good chicken korma.
I'd like to use more foraged and home-grown ingredients.
I'd like to organise the freezer, and figure out how to keep an inventory so I don't keep buying more things that I actually already have but they're buried under frozen peas or whatever.
And I want to start hosting spaghetti nights again.
I've been building a Facebook Events style event organizing system for the Fediverse. It's based on the simple, open source, privacy-respecting event organizing tool https://gath.io
The attached video is a work-in-progress preview and shows compatibility with Mastodon. My hope is to get it working with lots of software, including stuff like Friendica that supports events and calendars.

Electricity strikers in France light up poor homes this Christmas... Cut power and gas to bosses and police
"There is no “Christmas truce” for the workers of the Electricity Company of France (EDF) who are on strike. Workers are reconnecting service to poor families and lowering the price of tariffs to popular sectors, while cutting off power to police stations, management and large companies.
"Since the beginning of the strike on December 5, electricians and energy workers maintain power outages against Macron’s pension reform. A fighting method that exposes the strength of the workers and the strategic place they occupy, with the possibility of paralyzing government buildings and large companies with power outages."
I like nature and computers. I'm Admin of Kith.Kitchen and Software Engineer for the Natural History Museum.
Currently living in Leeds. I'm learning about anarchism. I try to get my hands dirty.
All about food, friends, cooking and community.
