Finally, whenever people talk about "building community", it always feels like you have to just hang out with people 100% of the time and give all your energy to them, and if you are at all introvert-leaning this is a very frightening proposition.
I think this is an overreaction to living in an alienated capitalist society. In non-capitalist societies (like my parents grew up in), it's just... accepted that people have different tolerances for being together. You don't have to be "on" all the time like I thought you did. Being social and connected doesn't mean constantly talking to other people. It means creating and honoring connections, and those are going to happen in different ways for different folks.
