I'm not a big believer in petitions, but here's one anyway, to protect uk renters from eviction during the current crisis:

I think what makes me resent Smart Phones the most is that it is a _commercial category_. It's not some kind of emergent form of social practice, like (PC) home computing which came out of diverse hobbyist/experimenter mileu. Smartphones were conceived and developed by a small group of marketing people at one (or two) massive corporations as closed ecosystem _products_. So, for me, the culture of smart phones is fundamentally consumerist.

I spy with my little eye...

Flower buds on the Blueberries!

This is Vaccinium corymbosum 'Hortblue Petite', which is meant to produce two crops a year.

I'm considering entering a science communication competition "FameLab", because I'm pretty bad at science communication. Worth doing, or a waste of time?

I've managed to convince the Global Justice Sheffield group that we need to get off Google/Gmail. So yay.

Our needs are that we have about 400 contacts, and need to have different lists, some with 15 people, another list goes out to 380 people.

I'm wondering what would be best to use, Tutanota or Protonmail? What do people recommend?

Please boost, thanks

Why paper-based election are great? Because the critical path is easy enough to understand and check by everyone:

1. You get your election paper and your ID is checked so you are allowed to vote
2. You check that all parties are listed
3. You check that no one is shoulder-surfing you while voting
4. You put it into the right box
5. You watch the election committee counting and reporting the correct numbers.

For electronic elections, let me ask one question: How does a kernel work?

My first shots of the Club Silverline (Cigaritis syama), a relatively rare butterfly, spotted at Coney Island, Singapore, on 8 March, 2020.

This was during a group photography outing, so the group descended on it and took lots of shots. But it stayed quite still and didn't mind the attention.
