uk pol, systemic induced poverty

remember while reading this that while Britain isn't quite the sixth richest country in the world any more, it is far from poverty-stricken, and this situation is the result of deliberate political choices

theguardian.com/society/2022/j

this isn't a "cost of living crisis", this is the result of 12 years of decisions to deliberately broaden and worsen poverty. calling it a "crisis" as if it's only just shown up lets the tories off a hook they should be swinging from

Here are a few thoughts about being a #musician today:
- No one will discover you on the internets.
- So you have to show yourself
- Don't try to please everybody, but PLEASE, try to please your audience.
- So learn who your audience is.
- It's OK to make music just for yourself, you owe nothing to no one.
- But if you want to be listened to/ gain momentum/make money, you should (in my opinion) promote your music
- Be consistant
- Be regular

cursed fact about the evolution of teeth

Teeth evolved from scales.

Yeah.

Those are heavily modified scales in your mouth.

PSA, heat mitigation

I've found wrapping an ice pack in cloth and tucking it into my clothes very effective at keeping me from overheating. Reusable flat chemical icepacks fit best and last the longest, but even a frozen water bottle works. Into a bra, against the stomach, and in the small of the back are all good spots. Avoid skin damage by always wrapping it in cloth and relocating the ice pack when it becomes uncomfortable.

I'm not a huge fan of the Guardian but they've got an interesting profile on the leader of the Unite union, Sharon Graham theguardian.com/commentisfree/

Nice week planned this week, off to see Parquet Courts gig tonight, followed by a spa day in Harrogate tomorrow, followed by food and drink with friends

Lizard Photo

Lizard, Ecopôle du val d'Allier, Pérignat-sur-Allier, France 🇫🇷 2022-05-02

There were a bunch of these ~4-inch long lizards in the leaf litter in the woods. We never saw any squirrels or mammals, just lizards.

culinary culture, boost please

Heck, let's do a poll for this. Since I'm pretty curious how my anecdotal experience talking to people translates to broader trends.

Do you, or have you picked mushrooms on your own? And where do you live?

(only four options allowed per poll, so if you're not in the US, give me an indication in a comment where you live. I imagine this might vary wildly over the world)

Apparently Unite (the union) are holding a rally in London on 18 June

Today I made this bike rack, this cous cous salmon arugula salad, and celebrated 33 years without a drink or drug.

Twitter Thread: Dall-e has a secret language.

If you ask it to draw subtitles, it shows mostly gibberish.

But if you feed that gibberish back into it, then you get a real thing.

Like "Whales talking about food" gives a speech-bubble with "ahakes" in it, and if you ask it to draw that then you get shrimp and fish and stuff.

Fascinating.

Curiosity poll regarding social media approach.

Please boost because we're really curious about the experience-approach for as many users as possible.

We have excluded two options here and will explain why:

Twitter exclusively: probably not gonna see this poll if you don't use Fediverse at all

Spiderman: We assume everyone would add Spiderman to their options because of how polls work.
